Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a secured level III unit at The Andrews Women’s Hospital at Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth. It is staffed 24 hours a day by specially trained nurses and neonatologists on the medical staff at Baylor All Saints.

Level III is the highest possible care designation. This is Fort Worth’s largest NICU for premature and seriously ill newborns.

Babies in the NICU are cared for by a neonatal team consisting of physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and chaplains. Equipment and services are specifically designed for our smallest patients. The NICU will offer many amenities to parents including sleeping accommodations for parents and lactation rooms.

Premature babies are susceptible to harm caused by very high noise levels. The NICU was built with specialized monitoring equipment to measure decibel levels on an ongoing basis. The unit features monitors with visual indicators and warning lights when sound levels exceed set points. Other safety features include special noise reducing mats and “pink noise” piped in around the clock to soothe and offset other sounds.
