Michael L. Taylor joined Baylor Health Care System in 2001 with more than 25 years of health care experience in both not-for-profit and for-profit organizations. Prior to coming to Baylor was a president in the Medcath organization and previously in multiple not-for-profit health care systems.
Taylor currently serves as the senior vice president of operations of Baylor Health Care System. He is responsible for seven general acute care and two specialty heart hospitals (one under development but currently providing "under arrangement" services). In this position, his responsibilities include accountability for results by entity and strategic alignment across the health care system in an attempt to capture market growth while improving efficiency.
Before being named senior vice president, Taylor was president of Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital. His responsibilities included construction oversight, development of structure and culture, strategy, operational design and implementation of the hospital operating plan inclusive of recruitment of staff from planning through operation/certification/accreditation.
Taylor's background includes a D.PA. in public administration from the University of Southern California, an M.S. in management from Purdue University and a B.S. in Health Care Management from the Medical College of Virginia. Taylor is affiliated with the American College of Healthcare Administrators, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and serves on the executive committee and board of the American Heart Association and several other professional organizations.
