(FRISCO, Texas, May 4, 2007)-Baylor Medical Center at Frisco has completed Phase I of the hospital's $65 million expansion project adding 58,890 square-feet to the existing hospital, more than doubling the size of the facility. Beginning Monday, May 7, the new wing will be open for business.

The first phase of the expansion includes five new operating rooms, two treatment rooms for pain management and gastrointestinal procedures, an additional emergency department treatment room, four pre-operative beds and 15 post-operative/recovery beds.

In addition, the first phase of the expansion features a brand new lobby and a medical education center that will serve as a teaching facility for surgeons to demonstrate the latest surgical procedures to physicians both locally and nationwide. The education center will be the first hands-on teaching center of its kind within the Baylor Health Care System (BHCS).

"Baylor Frisco was originally designed to grow with the community both in size and medical services," says Jimmy Laferney, M.D., vice president of medical affairs, Baylor Frisco. "With Phase I complete, we will be able to serve more patients, offer more services and expand our medical staff."

The second phase of the expansion will be completed in June 2007. Located on the second floor, Phase II includes a $20 million labor and delivery unit, a new service line for Baylor Frisco. The new unit will include nine labor and delivery suites, eight antepartum suites, 15 postpartum suites, an eight-bed neonatal intensive care unit, a 16-bed well baby nursery and three operating rooms.

"Obstetrics and gynecology is a much-needed service in this area. We want to accommodate the growing families within the community and offer them advanced obstetrics and gynecology services in a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere," adds Dr. Laferney.

Opened in 2002, as Frisco Medical Center, Baylor Medical Center at Frisco is a model health care facility designed with the patient in mind. The hospital is set in a hotel-like atmosphere, creating a comfortable, relaxing and patient-friendly environment with a focus on service and hospitality. From the gourmet food service to the private patient suites, Baylor Medical Center at Frisco has created a "culture of care" for its guests.

Baylor Frisco was recently named as one of the "60 Best Places to Work in Texas" by Texas Monthly magazine.
