(FORT WORTH, Texas, May 29, 2007) - Baylor All Saints Medical Centers announced today that Laurie Maddux, R.N. was the April 2007 recipient of the DAISY Award. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem.
Maddux, works in the Progressive Care Unit at Baylor All Saints. "Laurie is a very good nurse. She takes pride in her unit and in Baylor All Saints," says Sherree Bennett, R.N., nurse manager of the Progressive Care Unit. "She consistently goes above and beyond for her unit as well as her patients. Laurie is an asset to the Progressive Care Unit."
One of Maddux's peers stated, "Laurie consistently goes above and beyond for her unit as well as her patients. She is consistently recognized by other leaders as a nurse who gets it done. Administration received a letter from a patient who ultimately transferred to Hospice and passed away. The family was astonished by all of the extra things that Laurie did for them to make sure that the patient's stay was as smooth as possible and that the family could rest assured that the patient was in great hands. She extended that comfort and care beyond the walls of the Progressive Care Unit at Baylor All Saints."
The DAISY Award is a nation-wide program that rewards excellence in nursing. The award was created by the Foundation for the Elimination of Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem and recognizes the clinical skills, extraordinary compassion and care exhibited by nurses every day. It is given monthly to an outstanding nurse in more than 100 hospitals across the United States. Patients, visitors, employees or physicians may nominate a deserving nurse.
The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. Having been touched by the remarkable care, clinical skills and compassion demonstrated by nurses during Patrick's illness, the Barnes family made it their mission to recognize exceptional nurses around the country.
The DAISY Award is funded by the Faxel Endowment for Nurses. Ralph and Dee Faxel established the Faxel Endowment for Nurses through the All Saints Health Foundation. This fund provides scholarships, continuing education and certification assistance specifically for nursing.
