Baylor Health Care System Nurses Hear Expert in Evidence-Based Nursing Practice

(DALLAS, Oct. 10, 2007) - Alyce A. Schultz, R.N., PhD, FAAN, a world renowned expert in evidence-based nursing practices (EBNP), presented practical strategies that empower nurses to recognize and embrace EBNP as a critical aspect of nursing care at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Wednesday, Sept 26. In addition to visiting the downtown Baylor campus, Dr. Schultz spoke to nurses at Baylor Medical Center at Irving and Baylor All Saints Medical Center at Fort Worth.

Dr. Schultz is from the Center for Advancement of EBP at Arizona State University College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation and is highly regarded as an expert in the engagement of hospital-based nurses in the area of evidence-based practice and nursing research. Along with an international team of researchers, Dr. Schultz currently is a co-investigator on a Robert Wood Johnson study studying the characteristics in a work environment that promotes and sustains evidence-based nursing practice.

Dr. Schultz has served as an appraiser for American Nursing Association's Magnet Recognition program since its inception in 1994. She is a vice president on the Board of Directors for Sigma Theta Tau International and was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing for her work in developing the Clinical Scholar mentorship mode.

In fiscal year 2007, Baylor Health Care System will report $390 million in community benefit to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
