Got Rehab?

New location helps people recover from a range of problems

Memorial Hospital opened Healthplex at Memorial in December. The outpatient rehabilitation center is triple the size of the previous rehab facility, with more room to expand programs and develop new areas.

The full-service facility has physical, occupational and speech therapists who treat people from newborns to seniors in their 90s.

"We do everything-sports rehabilitation, industrial rehab for people injured on the job, pediatric rehab and rehab following total joint replacements," says Jeff Sant, a Healthplex physical therapist. "The cornerstone of our new facility is our aquatics pool, where we offer extensive water therapy programs to everyone from athletes to kids with cerebral palsy to people recovering from back injuries."

With the additional space in the new location, the team is developing a balance and vestibular program and expanding industrial rehab. They are also promoting wellness in the community and offering water aerobics and other programs.

The rehab team consists of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapists and speech therapists who bring a combined 84 years of experience to Healthplex at Memorial.

Sit Tall

If you find yourself hunching, leaning or slouching at your desk, your poor posture could lead to back problems. These tips for sitting can help keep your back healthy:
  • Feet should be flat on the floor.
  • Knees and hips should be at a 90-degree angle.
  • Leave a 2- to 3-inch space between the backs of your knees and the front of the chair.
  • Make sure you have good support for the curve of your lower back.
  • Sit upright with your shoulders back, and keep your head directly over your shoulders.
  • Adjust your desk and computer equipment for your height and arm length.
