Before Admission
Tours
We provide tours of the facility Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. These tours allow you to see patients participating in therapy. So we can have tour guides available for you, please call (214) 820-9300 to schedule the day and time that is most convenient for you. If special arrangements need to be made for evening or weekend tours, please let us know.
What to Bring
We want you to be as active as possible during your stay, so we recommend you wear non-binding clothes during daytime hours. Shorts, sweat pants, t-shirts and tennis shoes are especially comfortable. Dresses are not appropriate for therapy activities.
You should bring six changes of clothes and an adequate supply of socks and undergarments. Pajamas, gowns, bathrobe and slippers are also suggested for the evening and a swimsuit is necessary for aquatic activities. Please use an indelible ink pen to write your complete name in every item for easy identification.
We also recommend you bring these items:
- Brush and comb
- Toothpaste and toothbrush
- Shampoo
- Deodorant
- Shaving supplies (electric razor if you are on blood thinners)
- Non-skid shoes (tennis shoes)
- Eye glasses or contacts
You may also want to bring:
- Hair dryer
- Hair curlers
- Radio/tape/CD player
All electrical appliances must be checked by our engineering department before use and should be labeled with your name. Please leave all non-essential items at home.
Room Assignments
Half of our rooms are private and half are semi-private. You will be admitted to a semi-private room unless it is medically necessary for you to be in a private room. If you would like to transfer to a private room during your stay, please inform your nurse and she will be happy to put your name on a waiting list.
Please feel free to bring personal items to decorate your room including plants and flowers. There is a bulletin board in each room for you to display your cards, posters and photographs.
Family and Guest Housing
We have limited access to a variety of nearby, lower-cost housing facilities for out-of-town family members and guests. These include motels and hotels that can be reserved for nightly, weekly or monthly stays. Please call 214-820-9330 for a list or ask your social worker.
