Colon Health & Cancer: Wednesday, March 26
Baylor Dallas Digestive Care Services and Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center will host a special educational seminar about colon health and cancer on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Hotel Palomar in Dallas. This special event, designed to inform and answer questions about colon health and cancer, is open to the public.
According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States. However, in almost all cases, early diagnosis can lead to a complete cure. There is no single cause for colon cancer. Nearly all colon cancers begin as benign polyps, which slowly develop into cancer.
David Winter, M.D., internist on the medical staff at Baylor Dallas and host of HealthSource
® on WFAA-TV, will moderate a panel of four physicians as they discuss colon cancer topics including:
- Screening and prevention
- Heredity risks
- Symptoms
- Surgery and treatment options
- Research and new techniques and procedures
Following their initial discussion, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists* who are:
- Carlos Becerra, M.D., medical oncologist
- C. Richard Boland, M.D., Medical Director of Baylor Dallas Digestive Disease Services, gastroenterologist and expert in genetic disorders
- Roberto Rodriguez-Ruesga, M.D., colorectal surgeon
- Catherine M. Yaussy, M.D., gastroenterologist
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Hotel Palomar, which is located at Central and Mockingbird in Dallas.
