Parent Education Classes

Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine offers a wide variety of courses to help you prepare for the big event. Whether you're pregnant with your first child, or are already a parent, you'll find these courses full of helpful information.

To register for any of the classes, obtain class prices or for more information, please call 1-800-4BAYLOR (1-800-422-9567) or you can register on-line. Class space is limited, so we recommend you register during your first trimester.

Prepared Childbirth
This six-session course is designed to prepare you and your spouse/partner for the experience of labor and delivery. The topics covered include breathing and relaxation techniques, methods of anesthesia and Cesarean childbirth and everything you'll need to know for breast-feeding is also included with weeknight classes. A tour of Baylor Grapevine's Women's Center is included. Each session is 2 hours.

Refresher Childbirth
If you've already experienced childbirth, you'll benefit from this three-session mini-course. You and your spouse/partner will review breathing and relaxation techniques. You will also have the opportunity to share birthing experiences with others in the class, learn ways to prepare any other children for the new baby, and tour - Baylor Grapevine's Women's Center. Each class is 2 hours.

Basics of Baby Care
This class is designed to help first-time parents learn the basics of caring for a newborn. How to feed, diaper and bathe your baby will be discussed, along with growth and development as well as helpful parenting hints.

Breast-feeding
In this class, taught by a certified lactation consultant, you'll learn the nature and practice of breast-feeding. If you're unsure of whether you want to breast-feed, this course offers the information you may need to decide, and provides the skills that will help you breast-feed successfully.

Infant/Child CPR
If your baby were choking or stopped breathing, would you know what to do? This class provides the lifesaving skills you would need during emergency situations. You will receive instruction using the American Heart Association guidelines of infant/child cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This class also includes car seat and general safety information.

Cesarean Section
If you are planning a Cesarean birth, you will want to attend the Cesarean class, which meets during the regularly scheduled Prepared Childbirth course for first-time parents. The class for those who have previously had a Cesarean delivery meets during the regularly scheduled Refresher Childbirth classes.

Dads Only
As excited as both you and your husband or partner are about the birth of your baby, Dads have their own unique concerns and questions. This class gives expectant fathers a forum in which they can share their questions and concerns on topics such as finances, evolving marital roles, labor and delivery, and the role of fatherhood.

Sibling Class
This class is designed to orient big brothers or big sisters to their brand-new role. Your child(ren) will watch a video, learn about babies, talk about the special role of big brother or sister, and tour the Women's Center so they can see where Mom will be. Recommended for ages 3 to 8 years old. Parents are asked to stay during class. Discounted rates are available for families with more than one child.
