Metabolic Disease

The Kimberly H. Courtwright and Joseph W. Summers Institute of Metabolic Disease is dedicated to providing advanced clinical and diagnostic services, backed by ongoing research, for the treatment of children and adults affected by inherited disorders of body chemistry.

The Institute offers comprehensive testing, interpretation of test results, consultation, research information and any necessary referrals to specialized laboratories for metabolic services, physicians or support groups.

Supplemental Newborn Screening
All states require that your newborn be tested for three to eight metabolic disorders. As an extra step in protecting your baby's health, the Institute of Metabolic Disease at Baylor offers supplemental newborn screening for 30 additional disorders not included in the state-required screening.
