Neurology and Neurosurgery Services
Laura Leonard Hallum Neuroscience Center
The Laura Leonard Hallum Neuroscience Center has a comprehensive neuroscience program offering a broad range of sophisticated services including Gamma Knife and deep brain stimulation. In addition, we offer traditional surgical services for the spine and brain.
Gamma Knife
To meet community needs for neuroscience services, Baylor All Saints Medical Centers created the Laura Leonard Hallum Neuroscience Center, which houses the state-of-the-art Gamma Knife*. Not actually a knife at all, the Gamma Knife is a technologically advanced tool, which delivers ionizing radiation with pinpoint accuracy. Neurosurgeons can use the Gamma Knife to treat the following brain disorders:
- Arteriovenous malformations (AVM)
- Benign brain tumors, including:
- Acoustic neuromas
- Meningiomas
- Pituitary
- Malignant brain tumors, including:
- Glial and astrocytomas
- Low-grade tumors
- Metastatic brain tumors
- Trigeminal Neuralgia
With the Gamma Knife, neurosurgeons can treat these conditions in a single day, without an incision.
Deep Brain Stimulation
The center is the only facility in Fort Worth to offer deep brain stimulation for patients suffering from motor movement disorders, such as Parkinsons disease and essential tremors. Using implanted medical devices, brain pacemakers deliver electrical stimulation to target areas in the brain. Patients can begin to regain control of their lives after decades of crippling disability.
The center, along with neuroscience professionals in the community, continues to bring advances in neuroscience to the community as advances in treatment and research progress.
